Good afternoon BIS families,
Today, students had the opportunity to test their “Eye Spy” skills during our grade-level town halls. During these sessions, students reviewed our three core expectations at BIS:
- Be Kind and Respectful
- Be Safe and Responsible
- Be Engaged and Curious
This is an important time of year to revisit these expectations as the weather improves and we begin preparing students for the transition to the next grade level.
Congratulations to our Grade 5 leadership team, who presented at this week’s Board of Education meeting. They did an excellent job explaining The Good Behavior Game and how it supports our school community at Brownstone.
Our annual “Penny Wars” competition between Grades 5 and 6 will take place the week of March 30–April 2. More details will be shared next week.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Conferences will be held on an “as needed” basis on April 2 from 12:00–3:30 p.m. Teachers will reach out if a conference is recommended; however, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher at any time if you would like to discuss your child’s progress.
School Consolidation Update (from Dr. Britton)
Thank you to everyone who joined our tour of Gildersleeve Elementary School this past Monday. If you were unable to attend, please take a few minutes to watch a video summary of the tour, including the presentation at the end.
Our next community forum will be held on Monday, March 23 at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium at Portland Middle School. If you are unable to attend in person, the presentation will also be available via YouTube and Zoom (please visit the district homepage for access links). A recording will be posted following the event.
Monday’s forum will focus on the plan to transition sixth grade to Portland Middle School. Middle School Principal Mike Searson will provide an overview of the transition, followed by a review of the financial implications of the project.
Have a nice weekend,
Joe Santavenere
Principal
